The 22th Davar Summer Bible Seminar "A Good Soldier of Christ Jesus" 8/5〜8/10/2018

And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others. Endure hardship with us like a good soldier of Christ Jesus (2 Tim 2:2-3).

The word "fight" usually sounds negative—something that should be avoided. Especially for Christians, to fight against each other is morally bad because we know we are to love one another. Yes, it is wrong to fight for selfish gain and profit, and since we see a lot of nasty battles of this kind around us, we feel like avoiding such fights. However, it should be remembered that in the Bible, there are many stories, oracles and prophecies about battles. God even commanded Israel sometimes to completely destroy certain peoples. In fact, the name Israel means "God fights." We also know that Christ shed his blood in his fight against sin.

Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart. In your struggle against sin, you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding your blood (Heb 12:3-4).

And the Bible teaches that we, as followers of Christ, will go through the same kind of struggle and fight in this world.

I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world (John 16:33).

Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses (1 Tim 6:12).

Without the courage to fight, Christians live with no joy in acceptance of their defeat. Those who are willing, but not trained to fight also live without attaining the fruit of victory. First, you must know that it is good to fight, thrilling to fight, and necessary to fight. Otherwise you will be defeated, and God will not be pleased with you. As to what comes next ... well you’ll just have to come to this camp and find out!
